This painting titled 'Rico' is a departure from my usual choice of subject matter. A large percentage of my paintings are of women but every now and then I like to add a man to my portfolio.
With each new painting I try to bring in something new with 'Rico' it was an extensive use of a color I had been avoiding for years - red!
When the first red paint was applied it seemed to be too overpowering. But once 'Rico's' pale taupe jacket was added it brought all the red painted surfaces into balance. I am pleased with the final result. 'Rico' is the result of what I had envisioned him to be at the onset. He is your quintessential 1930's Latin lover, beautifully handsome, yet, still masculine.
